This crazy video caught a massive rockslide on the Stawamus Chief (VIDEO)

Ready to see the crazy side of Mother Nature in action? Neither were we, but we stumbled across it anyway today, thanks to the Stawamus Chief Webcam. After a summer of closures, the most impressive rockfall of the year occurred last night, and it was caught on video!

Multiple climbing areas on the mountain have been closed throughout the summer, with the last major rockfall occurring in June. However, the main hiking trail has stayed opened. Gee, it would be crazy to be up top and hear that go down.

We doubt that happened to anyone this time around, though. The rockfall occurred right around 1:30AM, and was aggressive enough to wake up nearby residents in Squamish (at least, according to social media comments). As for those bright lights? Well, they’re apparently sparks caused by the rocks crashing down the cliff face.

We’re just happy that no injuries have been reported in the area. Thanks for saving the craziest rockfall of the year until the middle of the night, Mother Nature!
