This 1800s Toronto mansion & Rolling Stones hangout just transformed into a giant beauty hub

Toronto has a new destination for all things beauty, and its location has a pretty fascinating history. LASHGOD opened its doors in Yorkville this week in a restored historic mansion built in the 1800s and if the walls could talk, they would have a lot to say. But before we tell you all about which famous folks have walked through the doors of this unique place, let us tell you a little bit about LASHGOD itself.

The beauty hub offers a range of lash, hair, nail and aesthetic services in a lovely pastel-coloured setting on the mansion’s third floor. It has a 600-square-foot rooftop patio with food and drinks, as well as gigantic plush chairs that’ll make you want to take a nap while you get a pedicure.

Plus, it has a retail space that sells products in every category, from haircare to nail polish to apparel. It’s also part beauty academy and serves as the headquarters of Modern Aesthetics College.

The hub is run by LASHGOD’s founder, a 24-year-old entrepreneur named Raquel DaSilva who also founded the beauty school. Pretty damn impressive!

As for the mansion itself, it was originally built in 1891 as a home for the head priest of the Church of the Messiah. Later, the home was occupied by the 10th Prime Minister of Canada, Mackenzie King.

Fast forward to the early 2000s and the home was reinvented as a creative house and office by Michael Cohl, a titan of Canada’s music industry. The Rolling Stones would hang out there when they were in Toronto, and it was where Cohl managed the careers of his biggest clients, including Prince, U2, Oprah, Michael Jackson, and Pink Floyd.

Now, the building is living out its latest chapter as a one-stop beauty shop in Toronto’s fanciest shopping district. The evolution of this city never ceases to amaze.
