10 of the best things to do in and around Vancouver this weekend (November 29-December 1st)

Who’s ready for a full weekend of holiday festivities, live performances, and magical Christmas markets?! From the first-ever Shipyards Christmas Market to a lively Santa parade, here are 10 of the best things to do in Vancouver this weekend (November 29-December 1).

Shipyards Christmas Market 

The first-ever, free-to-enter Shipyards Christmas Market has officially arrived! The event will feature over 75 wooden stalls adorned with twinkling holiday lights, with a variety of unique artisanal gifts for sale. Visitors can also celebrate the start of the season with festive music, ice skating on the outdoor ice rink, mulled wine and cocoa, and North Vancouver’s shining Christmas tree.

Surrey Santa Parade of Lights

The 17th annual Surrey Santa Parade of Lights is on this weekend, bringing a mix of decorated antique cars, trucks, and floats to the historic town centre of Cloverdale.

The parade will start at 5 pm on Sunday, December 1st.

Portobello West Roundhouse Holiday Market

From 10 am to 5 pm on Saturday and Sunday this weekend, the annual Roundhouse Holiday Market is bringing over 70 local BC artists, designers, and makers to the Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre. Visitors can peruse tons of handmade apparel, jewelry, home decor, pet accessories, gourmet treats, and much more, as well as enjoy a free interactive Magik Moments’ Photo Booth (from noon to 3 pm on Saturday only).

Holiday Shop: Wreath Making Workshop 

Want to craft your own Christmas wreath to really ‘wow’ your guests over the holidays? There’s a free wreath-making workshop at The Polygon that you won’t want to miss – and no previous experience is required!

VanDusen Festival of Lights

VanDusen’s iconic Festival of Lights will have over one million sparkling holiday lights this year, as well as a new interactive mycelium installation and a display inspired by BC’s gamed Great Bear Rainforest. And you can officially check it all out for yourself!

Miracle on 34th Street – Arts Club Theatre

Based on the classic story by Valentine Davies, Miracle on 34th Street adapted by Caleb Marshall and Erin Keating has arrived at the Arts Club Theatre, filled with Christmas cheer, heartwarming characters, and a childhood sense of wonder.

Make Change Market 

From 6 to 9 pm on Friday, November 29th, Heritage Hall will host a dreamt market experience organized by Employ to Empower, featuring ETE products and service vendors.

The Polygon Gallery’s Annual Holiday Shop 

If you’re looking for a holiday market with multiple dates to shop, you’ll have plenty of time to check out this year’s Polygon Gallery Annual Holiday Shop, which runs from November 13th to January 5th.

Where: 101 Carrie Cates Court, North Vancouver
Cost: Free admission

Canyon Lights

Capilano’s world-famous suspension bridge has transformed into a winter wonderland, complete with dazzling light tunnels, a forested flowing path, and twinkling displays galore.

When: Friday, November 22nd to Sunday, January 19th
Where: Capilano Suspension Bridge Park
Cost: $71.95 per adult

Vancouver Christmas Market 

We may as well add Vancouver’s Christmas Market to this weekend’s itinerary, since it’s shaping up to be a festive couple of days! Enjoy carousel rides, mulled wine and cocoa, delectable bites, and new light displays.
