10 of the best things to do in and around Vancouver this week (May 29-June 2)

We’re officially a few days away from June, and we couldn’t be more excited for all the food fests and summer concerts coming up. And in the meantime, there are plenty of things to do in Vancouver this week (May 29-June 2) to get excited about, from seeing The Cure onstage to checking out some new local art exhibits.

Tove Lo

One of the bigger performers slated to take the stage this week, Tove Lo is known for her raw, “grunge take” on pop. And the Swedish singer-songwriter is bringing her Dirt Femme Tour to Vancouver along with special guest Slayyyter on Monday, May 29th (rescheduled from February).

When: Monday, May 29th
Where: 868 Granville Street
Cost: $161.84

The Cure

Known for their unique soundscapes and introspective lyrics, British icons The Cure are heading to Vancouver in just a few short weeks. Tickets might be currently sold out on Ticketmaster, but you can definitely snag a couple more closer to the concert date, if you’re potentially willing to splurge a bit more.

When: Friday, June 2nd
Where: 800 Griffiths Way
Cost: More tickets to be released soon

Hit up the Grouse Grind

As of May 27th, the Grouse Grind officially reopened for the season, which means you can now enjoy the beautiful (and slightly gruelling) 2.5 km trail every day between 7 am and 7 pm.

Where: North Vancouver

Free nights at Vancouver Art Gallery

Thanks to a new partnership with BMO, the Vancouver Art Gallery is set to launch free admission to the public on the first Friday of every month, from 4 pm to 8 pm. The next free Friday night will be on June 2nd – so mark your calendars and get ready to enjoy some after-work art!

When: Friday, June 2nd
Where: 750 Hornby Street

Happy Valley at Firehall Arts Centre

The Firehall is closing its 2022-23 season with the premiere of rice & beans theatre’s Happy Valley from Thursday, May 25th to Sunday, June 4th. Performed by award-winning playwright Derek Chan 陳嘉昊, Happy Valley dissects the historic, political, and cultural context surrounding Hong Kong’s current democratic struggles.

When: Until June 4th
Where: 280 East Cordova Street

Vancouver Short Film Festival

Vancouver’s Short Film Festival features dozens of short films of various genres that are as visually compelling as their narratives are captivating. Examples of Canadian films include Wok Hei (Directed by Joel Salaysay)

Films can be seen in-person at the VIFF Centre from June 2nd to 4th, or streamed online until June 11th.

When: June 2nd to 4th
Where: 1181 Seymour Street

Hit up a brewery in Mount Pleasant

It’s no secret that Mount Pleasant is home to some of the biggest names in local craft brews in Metro Van. Why not get the gang together for a couple of pints? It is peak patio season, after all.

Hang out at a rooftop patio

While Vancouver’s rooftop scene isn’t as bustling as Toronto’s or New York’s – we’ve got a handful of top-notch options to toss your way if you’re craving a rooftop patio experience this spring and summer. And with such gorgeous, sunny weather, we doubt you’ll need much convincing!
