10 things to do in and around Seattle this week (July 29-August 2)

Let’s get ready for a brand new week! As we say farewell to July, we are also excited to welcome August. There will be a lot more fun festivals and experiences to check out in the city as we head into one of our favorite times of year. And to kick it all off, check out these things to do in and around Seattle this week!

Seattle Fleet Week & Boeing Maritime Celebration

The Seattle Fleet Week returns to Seafair once again! Besides the Parade of Ships through Elliot Bay, visitors are invited to meet the sailors and guardsmen, enjoy free music, and take ship tours.

When: Tuesday, July 30th and Thursday, August 1st, to Sunday, August 4th, 2024
Where: Pier 46
Cost: Free to attend

Dancing ‘til Dusk

Seattle Parks and Recreation is hosting Dancing ‘til Dusk this summer, and it’s time to dance! The lessons take place at parks across Seattle, and begins with a dance lesson for the first hour. No experience is needed but keep in mind the class rotates partners. If you’d prefer not to, you can bring a partner to the lesson. Lessons are on Tuesday at Hing Hay Park, and Thursday at Cal Anderson Park.

Downtown Summer Sounds

Get ready to rock: Downtown Summer Sounds is back! Local and national bands are gearing up for the 45th year of this free summer concert series.  From hip-hop and folk-pop to psychedelic punk rock and bluegrass, there’s something for everyone at the outdoor Downtown Summer Sounds. This week, catch Mitchum Yacoub and the Brass Empire on Wednesday, Kara Jackson on Thursday, and Irreversible Entanglement on Friday.

Marymoor Park

How about a mid-week movie at Marymoor Park? This Wednesday, you can celebrate the last day of July by watching Barbie! There are also food trucks on site for snacks and refreshments.

Center City Cinema

There is still time to check out Center City Cinema at one of the Seattle parks, as they run through August. This Wednesday, watch ‘The Pelican Brief’ at City Hall Park, or head to Ballard Commons for on Thursday, August 1 for  ‘Soul.’ Finally, on Friday, you can catch “The Fifth Element’ at Freeway Park.

Shakespeare in the Park

Shakespeare in the Park is a performance not to miss this summer. If you haven’t been, it is time as it is only running until Sunday, August 4th! The Seattle Shakespeare Company hosts these free, outdoor performances of classical plays in parks throughout the Puget Sound region.

Zootunes

It’s the 40th anniversary of Seattle’s ZooTunes. Back for another the summer, Woodland Park Zoo is hosting guests on the meadow for a concert series that is also a key fundraiser. This week, the Decemberists have two shows.

Free 1st Thursday Public Tour

The Washington Park Arboretum hosts free public tours on the first Thursday of each month. So kick off your month walking through seasonal themes, collections plants, and learn about the history of the organization.

Where: The Graham Visitors Center, 2300 Arboretum Drive East
Cost: Free

Movies at the Mural

Or perhaps head to the Seattle Center for Movies at the Mural, where you can picnic on the gently sloping Mural Amphitheatre lawn, in front of a state-of-the-art 40-foot screen, with the Space Needle looming above. This Friday, it is screening “Everything Everywhere All At Once.”

Seattle Mariners

Head to a ball game this weekend, as the Seattle Mariners play at home against the Philadelphia Phillies. There are several promotions on this weekend as well, that includes a drone show on Friday, and Mariners Bucket Hat Day on Sunday.
