The first week of October is finally here! It’s time to get your cozy sweaters and PSLs ready for autumnal vibes and spooky attractions all month long. In the meantime, here are all the things to do in and around Edmonton this week.
The TELUS World of Science in Edmonton will provide a full day of events beginning at 8 AM to honour the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Learn how to raise a Tipi, experience traditional live performances, and shop at the Indigenous Vendors Market. Indigenous guests will have free admission on Monday, September 30th

Explore the histories, cultures, and perspectives of the First Nations and Métis peoples at Fort Edmonton. This is a $5 ticketed event, with proceeds from admission will support the continued development of Indigenous educational programming at Fort Edmonton Park.
When: 10 AM – 1 PM and 1 PM to 4 PM on Monday, September 30th, 2024

Head to the Alberta Legislature reconciliation garden and wear orange to honour the survivors, families, communities and children who never returned home from residential schools. The community event will feature Indigenous speakers who will share their perspectives and experiences on reconciliation.

Head to the Alberta Aviation Museum Event Hangar and join the Indigenous Artist Market Collective for an evening event. Experience a pipe ceremony and traditional feast followed by a round dance.

The CFR is celebrating its 50th anniversary at Rogers Place, bringing vibrancy to Edmonton’s downtown and an elevated rodeo experience. There will be a tradeshow, nightly cabaret, and community-led Rodeo Week programming that will flank the rodeo in a week-long celebration of Western culture.

Lynne Hanson is a two-time Canadian Folk Music Awards winner who’s beloved for her high-energy roots guitar-driven live performances. Catch her live at the St. Basil’s Cultural Centre, there’s free parking on-site.

DARK is back for its 6th year! Head over to Fort Edmonton Park and experience their spookiest event. Visit a farm where a sinister deal harvests gruesome consequences. Or dare to discover what nightmares are made of when demons come knocking at three in the morning. Come for the scares and stay for the food and fun.

Experience the magic of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3, performed by award-winning Canadian pianist Jaeden Izik-Dzurko. The piece is notoriously difficult, and stunning to see live. It’s guaranteed to be a night that impresses.

The 38th Edmonton International Film Festival (EIFF) returns with 10 days of exciting events. You can expect filmmaker chats, Q&A’s, gala screenings, a local filmmaker spotlight, ‘buzzy’ films that are travelling the festival circuit, shorts with lunch, and more.

This show is a classic tale that follows Blanche DuBois as she flees to her sister’s New Orleans home, only to face an unravelling thread of illusions and harsh truths. It opens at the Citadel Theatre this Saturday, with ticket prices varying by seat.

Take a ghostly walk through Old Strathcona, and maybe even spot an apparition or two! The tour stops in front of the Strathcona Hotel, the Princess Theatre, the Strathcona High School and many other buildings, houses, and shops that have reported ghosts, hauntings, murders, and mysteries.

How about a guided night of stargazing? Elk Island National Park is hosting an introductory stargazing program led by an expert park interpreter. Learn to use a star chart, navigate by constellations, and listen to rich cultural stories around a cozy campfire.

You can’t have fall without a corn maze, and thankful this icon is back for the season! Head down and (literally) lose yourself in acres of corn. Don’t worry, they’ll find you… eventually.

An oldie but a goodie. Check out Pumpkins After Dark, a jaw-dropping display featuring over 10,000 hand-carved pumpkins, games, and sweet treats. This event transforms Borden Park every year – you should really think of making it a tradition!
