These are the new roadblocks around BC to limit non-essential travel

A new strategy to curb non-essential travel in BC has just been announced. The RCMP is going to set up several roadblocks at key places around the province to vet non-essential travel.

At the roadblocks, drivers will have to show ID with their name and address as well as give the reason for their trip. This new program is to make sure that people aren’t taking any unnecessary trips out of their health regions.

If your trip is considered non-essential, you’ll get sent back to the health region you came from. And, in case you get any ideas of flouting the rules, the fine for not heading back is $575! A pretty penny.

Starting today, you will see roadblocks at Highway 1 in the Boston Bar area, Highway 3 near Manning Park, Highway 5 in the Old Toll Booth area, and Highway 99 near Lillooet.

While yes, not traveling right now sucks, but it’s always good to remember that the rules are in place for a reason. We need to all work together to ease the spread, and right now that means not a lot of traveling.
