The Vancouver Airport renos feature a ‘Glassed-in Island Forest’ and more

Okay, we don’t know very many people who enjoy hanging out in airports. They’re stuffy, crowded, and sometimes stressful. But, the Vancouver International Airport is trying to fix this with its brand new Pier D expansion.

The expansion, which has no concrete opening date yet, has a whole new swath of amenities. On top of an additional 8 new gates, there will be yoga, prayer, and quiet rooms.

But the piece de la resistance is the “island” forest. This glassed-off spot allows you to go outside and enjoy a fresh of fresh air in a mini BC forest.

Having access to a tiny slice of the outdoors is a welcome experience for anyone who’s had to spend hours in an airport. And, for us Vancouverites, this is just another thing that points towards us having one of the best airports in the world.

Based on the preview, the expansion, the first one at the Vancouver Airport since 1996, is going to be beautiful. It’s also another thing to look forward to when travel starts opening up again!

To be honest, though, we’re just anticipating listening to Brian Eno here.
