While we totally understand the logic behind public health restrictions, we can’t help but be a little bummed that Edmonton has hosted major hockey events over the past year, with no fans allowed to see them. It looks like the Oilers Entertainment Group is on the same page, since they’ve asked Alberta Health Services if they can put some fans in the stands before the season ends. Here’s a quick rundown.
The news was originally broken by TSN’s Tom Gazzola on Sunday morning. And, the initial coverage was more or less spot-on. The Oilers Entertainment Group had submitted a 50-page document titled the ‘Return of Fans’ to Alberta Health Services. By Monday, Alberta Health had confirmed they had received the document.

Sadly, that isn’t available to the public. But basically, the Oilers are confident that alongside Alberta Health they could allow some fans to enter the building for games. We’re talking like 15% here, so we have a feeling that tickets will only be available to season ticket holders/insanely expensive. Still, it would be a start.
While there is no timeline for the return to fans plan, the Oilers are apparently hoping that it could be included in Step 3 of the province’s Relaunch Strategy. We’ll keep you posted if any more news comes out!
