A world-famous B.C. garden will soon transform with thousands of twinkling Christmas lights

Who’s ready to take in the mesmerizing Christmas lights at British Columbia’s world-famous garden? The stunning Butchart Gardens in Victoria is soon transforming into a 55-acre winter wonderland, and we’re here to dish all the details.

Visitors can roam the garden at their leisure, enjoying traditional carollers and music by a brass band as they go. In addition to seeing some year-round natural beauty, you’ll be treated to carousel rides, which are free on December 1st!

In an email with Curiocity, a representative confirms that the number of lights in this year’s transformation is well into the thousands. So get ready for a truly spectacular holiday experience.

Sing along to classic carols, indulge in tasty eats at Dining Room Restaurant or Blue Poppy, and take in the festive scenes of The Twelve Days of Christmas.

Those who want to watch this year’s light displays light up for the first time can head to Victoria on Sunday, December 1st, and watch the magic start at 5 pm.

Want a cup of cocoa to warm your palms as you roam? The Coffee Shop, The Seed & Gift Store, and the Rose Carousel will be open from 3 pm to 10 pm.

There will also be festive dining options at The Dining Room Restaurant from 2:45 pm to 3:30 pm and at The Blue Poppy Restaurant from 4 pm to 8 pm.

Note that the Japanese and Mediterranean Gardens will be closed during the Magic of Christmas, and pets are only permitted between 8 pm and 10 pm.

Admission & hours

Ready to explore this magical winter wonderland? Butchart Gardens is transforming for the holidays from Sunday, December 1st to January 6th, with admission priced at $37 per adult, $18.50 for youth (aged 13 to 17), and $3 for children (aged 5 to 12).

The gardens will operate from 3 pm to 9 pm, but visitors can enjoy the lights until 10 pm.
