The craziest pics and videos from the tornado that hit Vancouver this weekend

Last week’s weather was, quite literally, one for the history books. After an absolutely gorgeous double-rainbow during the week, Mother Nature showed off her mean side over the weekend, with a tornado touching down near the Vancouver airport on Saturday, November 6th.

It was only the third time in Vancouver’s recorded history that a tornado touched down in the city, with the last one occurring over 40 years ago (1976). The cause? A ‘supercell‘ thunderstorm, which features a consistent rotating updraft and creates some of the most fearsome tornadoes around. Well, Vancouver certainly got a taste of that…

In addition to the crazy sights near YVR Airport and the Strait of Georgia, the storm was most intense near the University of British Columbia, resulting in significant damage and some pretty scary situations…

Luckily, the effects of the storm and the tornado have been limited to property and power outages, and there have been no reports of injuries related to them. Geeze, a double rainbow followed by a once-in-a-generation tornado in Vancouver, all in one week. November’s been a crazy time!
