Canadians are exploring in-country travel options now more than ever, and as a gal from Toronto, one area of Canada I have been dying to visit is the east coast. Located along the shores of The Bay of Fundy in New Brunswick, The Algonquin Resort is one of the most iconic and historic hotels in the country and totally worth a spot on your must-visit list.
Starting out with a little bit on The Algonquin’s history, which dates all the way back to 1889 when the resort opened its doors in Canada’s first seaside resort town, St. Andrews. Back then, a room was just $3 to $5 per night. *Sigh*. Simpler times.
The Algonquin has undergone multiple massive renovations over the years, including one in 1991, which led to the resort being named Canada’s Resort of the Year by The Canadian Travel and Tourism Industry Association.
These days, it’s even more fabulous.
Boasting 233 rooms and suites, there’s no shortage of gorgeous accommodations to choose from. Some even come with patios and views of the Bay – talk about gorgeous.
The amenities are 10 out of 10, too, including:
Guests of The Algonquin can also enjoy bites and beverages from the on-site Braxton’s Restaurant & Bar, with menu highlights such as lobster spring rolls, oysters, seafood chowder, lamb burgers and prime rib. Yum!
There’s always the option to leave the resort for the day and explore the beautiful town of St. Andrews, too.
Summer festivals and waterfront events take over this time of year, like the Broadway by the Sea Festival, Paddlefest, Pirates Fest, and Katy’s Cove celebrations.
Now that your summer travel plans are made, all you have to do is book it, Canada.
Where: 184 Adolphus St. – St. Andrews, N.B.
