Brighter days ahead: Sunset in Calgary will be at 5 pm & later starting next week

We love snow-covered mountains and frostbitten trees, but the lack of sunlight? That’s our least favourite part of the winter season.

Luckily, according to Time and Date, the worst is over! Sunset in Calgary will soon occur a half hour later than it did on December 21st, 2023 – the Winter Solstice.

Recognized as the shortest day of the year, December, 21st saw just 7 hours and 54 minutes of sunlight, as opposed to January 17th, 2024 – in which we’ll get over 8 and a half hours of vitamin D!

Starting next week, the sun will set over Calgary at 5 pm, a luxury we haven’t had since the beginning of November meaning that brighter days are ahead!

Can’t wait? Well, it only gets better!

The next two months may see colder temperatures but it’s just a matter of time until you’ll be able to enjoy your commute home with an hour of sunlight to spare – if of course, you work a 9-5.

Starting on February 20th, 2024 the sun will begin to set at 6 pm – so get excited!

Heck, why look way ahead to our next Daylight Saving Time, which will start on March 10th, 2024 and will bring a 7:33 pm sunset over Calgary.

The winter blues are real, but the sun will come out tomorrow and it’ll stay put just a while longer than it did today and for that, we can be thankful!

Exciting things are coming.
