There’s a thrilling suspension bridge nestled in the breathtaking Alberta Badlands

Feeling adventurous? Put your courage to the test just outside Drumheller, Alberta at the Star Mine Suspension Bridge!

Star Mine Suspension Bridge

Located just 9 kilometres from the dinosaur-loving town, this particular attraction is rich with history and offers an incredible view of the Red Deer River.

While it’s often used by locals to access great Badlands terrain or for fishing, the Star Mine Bridge was originally intended for miners to get to work.

According to Travel Drumheller, it was first built in 1931 but fell into disrepair in 1957 after the mines in the area closed down.

In 1958, the government rebuilt the bridge to honour and commemorate the history of mining in the town, then closed again in 2020—but it’s back in action!

After four long years, the bridge has reopened to the public and can now be enjoyed by those brave enough to walk the 117 metres from one side to the other.

Want to check it out?

Don’t leave without exploring the rest of the area!

From the Royal Tyrrell Museum and the World’s Largest Dinosaur to the “ghost town” of Wayne, there’s plenty to see and do in the great Canadian Badlands.

You’re in for quite the treat!
