This vintage locomotive still operates & offers gorgeous fall train rides in Ontario

Step back in time, to a more simple era where trains dominated the transportation industry and life was a little less hectic. Feel like you’re in the 1920s as you take a journey on this restored vintage locomotive. Here’s what to know about the South Simcoe Railway and its fall train rides.

For the thrilling season, the South Simcoe Railway welcomes visitors on select dates for its fall colour excursion.

This historic railway will take you through the beautiful Beeton Creek Valley! The views will be accompanied by fascinating commentary from your friendly conductor.

At the time of writing, the next scheduled excursion is on September 28th, 2024 for the fall colours excursion. For you train fans, the Diesel Locomotive 703 is scheduled to operate.

“You’ll travel in restored 1920s coaches over the rails of a century-old branchline that once connected Hamilton with Barrie and Collingwood,” shares the site.

“Enjoy the sights and sounds of the vintage locomotive as you travel through the rolling countryside.”

How long is the train ride?

Per the official website, the round trip from Tottenham to Beeton and back takes little less than an hour.

How can I get tickets?

Well, this train experience is a pretty popular one so unfortunately its advanced tickets are sold out for all dates even into October.

BUT you can still get tickets in person. Limited walk-in tickets would still be available for these dates and are sold on a first-come, first-served basis on day of.

You can head to the ticket office about half an hour before the first trip.

What days will the train experience run?

According to the official site, train enthusiasts can enjoy the experience on September 29th and October 5th, 6th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 19th and 20th.
