Ontario has a small town with a big city vibe and a riverfront downtown

Now here’s a small town worth hitting the road for. Imagine all the joys of city living but compressed into a cozy, small-town destination. Belleville, Ontario, is next on our list and here’s what to know.

About two hours away from Toronto is Belleville. It’s home to a charming downtown core that unfolds along the tranquil Moira River.

Next stop: Belleville, Ontario

According to its tourism page, this picturesque district boasts historic architecture, charming streetscapes, and a vibrant local culture, making it a must-visit destination.

Right in the heart of downtown Belleville is Front Street, a pedestrian-only strip lined with one-of-a-kind boutiques. You’ll find everything from vintage wear to quality clothing, accessories, and home decor.

There’s also the Belleville Farmers Market, which is open on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, year-round, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

It brings together local farmers and food producers with some of the best seasonal produce.

Other sites to explore include the Glanmore National Historic Site, which boasts Victorian charm and offers walking tours. There are three self-guided tours to explore, to be exact.

‘The City Hall Walking Tour, featuring the majestic 1872 Belleville City Hall, showcases stunning stained glass windows, original bricks, and wooden trusses, all against the backdrop of the Moira River.

There’s also the Designated Historic Sites tour and the Places of Worship Walking Tour — all the details can be found here.

In Belleville, you’ll find a perfect blend of “small-town charm and big-city amenities,” the town’s Discover Guide says.

And we couldn’t agree more.
