This trail through forest canopy leads to an epic lookout above a bluff in Ontario

Grab your hiking boots! The fall colours are starting to come out in the province and there are some lookout spots you’re not going to want to pass by. Skinners Bluff displays views of the surrounding Niagara Escarpment in Ontario and the hike to get there is just as beautiful.

Getting there

Skinners Bluff is found just northeast of Wiarton, Ontario. If you’re driving from Toronto it will take you around three and a half hours.

The entire Skinner’s Bluff Trail system is 19 km long but for the views atop the bluff, you’ll only need to venture 15 minutes from the parking lot.

The trail that will lead you to the bluff lookout is the Bruce Trail.

Hikers will wind through forest canopy and over rocky terrain before reaching the scenic spot with panoramic views!

According to Visit Grey, “The views are amazing from the east and north sides of the escarpment as you overlook the forests below and islands of Colpoy’s Bay in the distance”.

If you want to bring along your four-legged friend you can do so but all dogs need to be kept on a leash.

There are drop-offs that are not blocked off so keeping your dog on your leash is not just for the safety of others but for their safety too.

After you’re done checking out the Bluffs why not stay awhile?

The town of Wiarton has local shops, delicious restaurants and a landmark that brings people in from near and far: Wiarton Willy.

The monument of the groundhog represents a tradition where once a year the province looks to the animal and asks if will he cast a shadow, foretelling six more weeks of winter, or if the absence of a shadow will bring an early spring.

A fall adventure awaits at Skinners Bluff, Ontario!
