An award-winning musical is bringing your favourite ‘Shrek’ characters to the stage in Metro Vancouver

If Shrek is one of your favourite movies to rewatch, get ready to experience its iconic story and characters in a whole new way. Royal City Musical Theatre (RCMT) presents the Tony Award-winning Shrek the Musical, which hits the stage in Metro Vancouver in just a few short weeks.

The musical follows a cast of fairytale misfits as they embark on a journey of self-discovery and acceptance, based on the 2001 DreamWorks animated film, Shrek.

While the RCMT is known for staging classic musicals, contemporary musicals like its 2025 production of 9 to 5, The Musical, were such a hit that they’ve decided to go with another modern classic.

“A Tony Award–winning show, Shrek is musically rich, wildly entertaining, and genuinely accessible to multiple generations,” says Chris Adams, RCMT artistic director. “The show celebrates individuality, challenges superficial judgment, and reminds us that community is strongest when it is inclusive.”

Guests can expect larger-than-life characters, spectacular music, and dazzling costumes, all brought together by Director Chris Adams, Choreographer Tracey Power, Musical Director Angus Kellett, Lighting Designer Robert Sondergaard, Sound Designer Rick Colhoun, Props Designer Stephanie Barclay, Prosthetics/Make-Up Designer Brooke Churchill, Set Coordinator Emily Dotson, and Costume Coordinator Caitlyn Baird.

The play stars Tanner Zerr as Shrek, Madison Simms as Fiona, Chris Francisque as Donkey, Kamyar Pazandeh as Lord Farquaad, and Alexis Hope as Dragon.
