Seattle’s tunnel boring machine is ready to rock with its official new name

Remember a few weeks ago when talked about Seattle’s new tunnel boring machine? If you don’t, that’s okay, because it’s a pretty niche subject. But the results of the machines naming contest are in and we’re pretty dang happy with the name. It just so happens to be honoring one of Seattle’s most influential grunge bands.

If you haven’t already guessed, the machine’s new name is Mudhoney! Over 30,000 people voted and the name was the clear winner in the contest. If it wasn’t what you were hoping for, we’re sorry. But we’ll bet the band is pretty thrilled with the name. And we also wonder if back in the day they ever thought they’d have a tunnel boring machine named after them. Probably not.

Of course, the band got some great pictures with the new machine. And we like the nice decal the machine got, it really adds to the overall vibes. Although who knows how much of that decal will be seen because this machine will be busy making a tunnel to reduce Seattle’s sewer overflow.
