The Seattle Public Library has online courses you can take for free

If learning new things or skills is part of your 2024 New Year’s resolutions, the library is a great place to start. Now we know that seems obvious, but it’s not for the reason you think. Beyond the millions of pages of text material available, the Seattle Public Library also gives you access to online courses for free, and here’s how to access them.

So what can you learn? The answer is a whole lot, thanks to partner programs, Seattle Public Library cardholders can take courses in everything ranging from foreign language to design to business skills and more.

These are the partner programs and what they have to offer that you can access thanks to the library:

  • LinkedIn Learning: Learn a new skill at your own pace, with thousands of courses covering animation, business skills, marketing, design, photography, programming and much more. Library ID for the mobile app (all lowercase): seattlepl
  • Mango Languages: Want to improve your conversation skills in another language? This interactive tool offers more than 70 languages, including English, for children and adults.
  • Microsoft Imagine Academy: Prepare for school or career by improving your knowledge of Microsoft products and technologies. Basic skills, advanced training and certification are available. Account registration required.
  • O’Reilly Complete Public Library: Improve your computer and business skills. Access nearly 50,000 titles, including 7,000 videos about computing, databases, programming, web design and more. Formerly Safari Books Online.
  • Signing Savvy: Learn American Sign Language (ASL) online with this visual dictionary. Searchable by word or phrase. Create word lists, flash cards, and quizzes.
  • Tutor.com: Log in with a Library card to get free online tutoring from live tutors for K-12 students, as well as adult learners and job seekers.

Beyond online courses, the library also has tons of digital content that you can also access from home. The more you know!
