Traveling soon? SEA-Airport has over 100 upgrade projects underway & here’s what to know

If you’re planning to fly out of Seattle anytime soon, there are a few things you will want to keep in mind! According to Port Seattle, there are 120 projects underway as part of the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) upgrades.

There are a few things you will want to know if you are planning on traveling soon. First is, that TSA Security Checkpoint 3 is temporarily closed for reconfiguration. According to the airport, “this project will add two more lanes to the checkpoint, which reopens in early June, ahead of the summer season.”

They add that the reconfiguration of TSA Security Checkpoint 2 was recently completed, adding two lanes, and four new lanes will be added overall.

Other noticeable upgrades at SEA include: new scaffolding in front of TSA Security Checkpoint 5 is now in place as part of the next phase of the SEA Gateway project; and there are expanded construction walls up for the new TSA Security Checkpoint 1 Relocation on the south end of the baggage level of the main terminal in the Arrivals Hall.

Dining and retail locations in C Concourse are closed as four new stories are being built above the space, which is scheduled to open in 2026.

Be sure to plan and get to the airport early, especially if you are traveling over Memorial Day weekend.

“Mornings before noon will be consistently busy, with early mornings before 9:00 a.m. being the busiest. Busy periods can cause busy conditions at TSA security checkpoints and on the drives,” shares Port Seattle.

Close to record numbers of passengers are expected to travel during the Memorial day weekend, as SEA expects an estimated 760,000 passengers during the May 23rd to 27th holiday period.

If you want, you can speed through security checkpoints by signing up for free SEA Spot Saver service to reserve your time at TSA security checkpoints as early as five days before you travel (or when you arrive at the airport). It is open daily from 4 am to 10 pm.
