Iconic Vancouver building among the most photographed at night in North America

Love taking pictures of unique buildings during your travels? Day-time photos are definitely more common, but we think that Buildworld sums it up best with “architecture never sleeps.”

In a new study, the building and construction website analyses over 10 million photos on photo platform Flickr tagged “night” to uncover the most photographed places at night across the globe.

As it turns out, some of the most imaginative buildings in the world are designed with special lighting and effects best admired after the sun has gone down.

In North America, Vancouver’s own Science World earns the second spot on the list, just under the Empire State Building in New York.

Science World is one of three Canadian buildings to be recognized, accompanied by Centre Block Canada on Parliament Hill in Ottawa and the Parliament of Canada.

Outside of North America, Markthal in the Netherlands takes the cake, with 370 of every 1,000 pictures taken at night.

From the Bank of China Tower to the Eiffel Tower, here are the top 10 photographed buildings at night:

  1. Markthal – Netherlands
  2. Bank of China Tower – China
  3. Mole Antonelliana – Italy
  4. National Museum of Singapore – Singapore
  5. Copenhagen Opera House – Denmark
  6. Eiffel Tower – France
  7. Christiansborg Palace – Denmark
  8. Shanghai World Finance Centre – China
