Scenic mountain skating spots to visit in Alberta this winter

There are few activities that are as magical as going for a glide in the Rockies. Luckily, Wild Rose Country has no shortage of incredible places to go for a rip! Not sure where to start when it’s finally cold enough? Here are some gorgeous mountain skating spots in Alberta you should add to your hitlist.

Lake Louise

From sleigh rides and cross-country ski trails to snowshoeing and a stunning chateau, Lake Louise has it all. Do you know what else they’ve got? One of the most beautiful skating rinks in the province. You won’t regret checking it out.

Two Jack Lake

Don’t mind going for a bit of a driver? Located in Banff National Park, Two Jack Lake has some incredible views. Visit on a clear day and take in the mountain scenery and crisp air – it’s something special!

Vermillion Lakes

Located outside the town of Banff just west of Mt. Norquay Road, this lake isn’t perfectly even, but it’s incredibly beautiful. In fact, you might even say that it’s one in Ver-million! Our advice? Avoid the area east of the dock at Third Vermilion Lake and watch your blades!

Lake Minnewanka 

At Lake Minnewanka, you’ll find wide-open spaces and unreal sights. The only downside? Due to its size and depth, this one doesn’t freeze until well into the middle of the winter, so be patient!

Mildred Lake

Located in Jasper National Park, Mildred Lake is groomed, frosty and impressive. Here, enjoy a lap or two as well as a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains. There are also skates available at the Winter Rental Shop for those who forgot their gear at home.

Johnson Lake

Looking for a winter wonderland? Johnson Lake is located east of Banff and can vary in thickness, but is another worth visiting. Don’t forget your camera, though! You’ll want to capture the moment.

Pyramid Lake

Visiting the Pyramid Lake Resort? Unwind, with a winter glide around their rink. This place truly has everything you need to enjoy a beautiful day outdoors including snowshoeing, fat biking and sleigh rides!
