The peaks and valleys of Wild Rose Country are truly spectacular no matter the season, but the Rockies are extra special when the sun is shining. This summer, lace up a pair of boots, slick back your hair and pack a few snacks because there’s no better time to do some hiking in Alberta than right now!
Not sure where to go? Here are just a few scenic trails worth taking this summer.
Located in Waterton National Park, Crypt Lake is a stunning destination best known for its payoff AND for its difficulty. Luckily, the views are outstanding and an absolute must-take if you’re a well-seasoned traveller. Overlooking large trees and the Waterton Reservoir this hike will take you through caves, by waterfalls and ends with an incredible view of the entire national park.

The Grotto Canyon Trail kind of has everything, a cave, an Inukshuk garden and waterfalls. As a bonus, it should also be noted that this hike is also pretty good for kids as well as dogs!

Just starting on your journey to becoming a seasoned hiker? Grassi Lakes has two loops, one of which is relatively easy and incredibly scenic! Take the kiddos and the dog and go the novice route, or challenge yourself and see an incredible waterfall!

360-degree mountain-top views? The Sulpher Skyline Trail is one of the most beautiful in the area, and while it’s not the easiest hike in the world, the payoff will have you wanting to do it over again.

A series of three different waterfalls, Siffleur is located just north of Banff National Park a short distance from the David Thompson Highway. The very best part? It’s considered moderate so most are able to hike, explore and enjoy!

Maligne, the ‘deepest canyon in the Rockies’ is an all-season beauty. The hike up to this one is almost as beautiful as the waterfall itself, and it’s not super difficult either! The easy-to-follow trail will take you over 6 scenic bridges – if you’re an expert or 2 if you’re looking for something light and enjoyable!
