Ontario’s white ‘cathedral’ bluffs are a must-visit this fall

This gem east of Toronto is popular for a reason! The Scarborough Bluffs are a natural spectacle rising majestically from the shores of Lake Ontario.

The Scarborough Bluffs are actually a collection of sedimentary deposits formed over 12,000 years ago.

They span 15 kilometers along the lakeshore and across several urban parks.

You’ll find yourself wandering among wetlands, meadows, and dense forests until you arrive at the jewel in the crown – Bluffer’s Beach.

This secluded spot is cradled by the towering white cliffs that are like nothing else you’ll find in the big city.

To see the cliffs in all their glory, head to Cathedral Bluffs Park.

Here, you’ll get to see the tallest portion of the eroded sandstone cliffs, soaring over 90 meters high – that’s equivalent to a 25-story building!

With their towering height and natural patterns, the spires of Cathedral Bluffs resemble a grand cathedral.

The Bluff’s Trail connects Bluffer’s Beach to Bluffer’s Park, an ideal spot for a scenic stroll.

And don’t forget to visit the Rosetta McClain Gardens, a colorful oasis featuring a pergola, a rock fountain, blooming flowers, and butterflies.

For that perfect golden hour photo, head to Scarboro Crescent Park.

Perched high above the Bluffs, the vistas seem to stretch endlessly over the lake.

But, it’s worth noting that access to this park requires you to travel up a steep road.

Also, because the cliffs are still eroding, it is very important to stay on the marked path. Do not cross or climb over the barriers — not only is it dangerous, but it could land you a hefty fine.

The best part is that it’s free to visit and you don’t need a car to get there — just hop on the TTC and take a direct bus to the cliffs!

So, what’re you waiting for? Ditch the city hustle-bustle and escape to an otherworldly paradise this fall.
