You can climb to the top of Ontario’s majestic towering sand hills

We may not have many real mountains here in Ontario, but what we do have is arguably even cooler. Sand Hill Park has towering peaks made out of sand, as well as the largest sand pile in the province that you can climb to the very top of.

Sand Hill Park is a privately-owned family park and campground where you can spend a weekend laying out on the beach, hiking, doing fun activities, and exploring majestic sand hills.

“As one of Ontario’s natural wonders the Sand Hills tower 350′ above Lake Erie, providing incredible views and storybook sunsets,” the website says.

This park has been family-operated since 1854 by the Alton family and has been enjoyed by visitors every summer for nearly two centuries now. How amazing is that?!

In addition to the beach and sand hills, the amenities at this park include a basketball court, volleyball court, snack bar, band shell, shuffleboard, horseshoes, craft and activity barn, BMX track, playground, and cool zone.

There are 125 full-service, serviced, unserviced, pull-through, and group campsites available at the park, which you can reserve online.

Located just 25 minutes from Sand Hill Park is Long Point Provincial Park, which is home to a unique 40-km sandpit that’s also a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

Sand Hill Park is open daily from 9 AM to 9 PM, and until 10 PM in July and August. Admission fees start at $12 per person and children under 12 are free.

If you love a good summer adventure, you’ll want to throw this fascinating destination on your list.
