Rogers is having a major outage in Canada & here’s what to know

If you’re a Rogers customer, you may be one of the many people who can’t call, text, or use the internet right now. A major Rogers outage in Canada is impacting customers all over the country and here’s what we know so far.

The outage was first reported in the early hours of Friday, July 8. That’s when various municipalities and police, including the City of Toronto, began issuing advisories about potential connection problems.

“The Rogers Network is experiencing some technical difficulties,” tweeted Toronto Police at 6:31 a.m. on Friday. “There are some connection problems calling 9-1-1.”

According to this map of the Rogers outage, customers in the GTA are currently the most impacted, but the outage is also being reported in cities like Montreal, Winnipeg, and Ottawa.

In Toronto, Rogers customers are rushing to their nearest coffee shop for wifi access, however, even these places are being affected.

The Starbucks location at Peter St and Adelaide St West has a sign posted on the front door saying, “Due to a city-wide wifi outage (Rogers) we are currently accepting cash and Starbucks cards only.”

INTERAC and GO Transit have issued their own advisories saying that some of their systems are down as a result of the outage.

Rogers issued a statement addressing the outage at just before 9 a.m. EST.

“We know how important it is for our customers to stay connected,” the company tweeted.

“We are aware of issues currently affecting our networks and our teams are fully engaged to resolve the issue as soon as possible. We will continue to keep you updated as we have more information to share.”
