One of the world’s largest glacial potholes is along a trail in Ontario

The weather may be cooling down but there are still parks in the province that can be explored any time of year. Rockwood Conservation Area is just over an hour from Toronto but feels like an escape to somewhere much further away. The area is home to natural wonders such as limestone cliffs and one of the world’s largest glacial potholes.

Getting there

Rockwood Conservation Area is open daily for day use from 8:00 AM – 7:30 PM.

The park is located in Eramosa, Ontario and if you’re driving in from Toronto or the GTA you can expect the commute to take you just over an hour, making it the perfect destination for a day trip.

There is a parking lot on site and upon entering you will be asked to pay a day fee. Fees start at $3.75 per child ages 4-12 and $8.50 per adult ages 13-64.

Exploring Rockwood Conservation Area

Once you enter the park you will have the option to hike two different trails.

The trails are called the Pothole Trail and Cedar Ridge Trail and you can’t go wrong with either (or both).

The Cedar Ridge Trail brings hikers to the Harris Woolen Mills ruins, past caves and massive glacial potholes, including one of the world’s largest.

Marked as moderate in difficulty, be sure to show up to the trails prepared with the proper footwear, clothing and water.
