Hang ten: You can take a river surfing lesson in Alberta’s Rocky Mountains this summer

Albertans may not be able to lounge under a palm tree or drink on the beach at an all-inclusive without leaving the province, but we can catch a wave! This summer, hang ten with the pros and take an action-packed lesson with Alberta River Surfing Association!

Year after year, adrenaline seekers take to the water for a day of river surfing but now you have a chance to get in on the action.

Offered for a limited this season, those looking to hop on a board and try the activity for themselves can do so by taking one of 7 classes offered in Kananaskis – but be warned, it’s not as easy as they make it look!

During a 3-hour lesson, Hopefuls will learn river surf safety practices and will be shown low-risk entry points for river surfing.

It should be noted however, that river surfing is tough, and most beginners do not stand up on the wave on their first go, but you’ll get there!

Interested? All students must have a helmet, a PFD or impact vest, a wetsuit, booties and a river surfboard.

They offer both novice and intermediate classes for $159 and you can sign up on their website now, but hurry! These classes are filling up quickly and you won’t want to miss your chance.

Enjoy and good luck!
