September is a month of changing leaves, cozier weather, and the Harvest Moon, which brings us to this year’s Renfrew Ravine Moon Festival in Vancouver.
The annual month-long celebration honours the diverse cultural traditions of the Renfrew Collingwood neighbourhood, filled with immersive art workshops, nature tours, dazzling lanterns, and community performances.
From creating your salmon lantern to learning the art of making mooncakes, to creating natural dye in honour of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, there are plenty of ways to get involved in this year’s festivities.
Presented by the Still Moon Arts Society, the festivities will kick off with the Moon Festival’s Main Day, which consists of four events across two venues.
Visitors start with a relaxed afternoon of performances and interactive activities at Slocan Park, including lantern-making for the upcoming parade, and a light dinner of harvest soup and snacks from local eateries.
Following the Harvest Fair from 4 to 7 pm, the celebration moves to the Twilight Lantern Procession, which starts at Slocan Park and ends at Renfrew Community Park, where vibrant Streamside Lanterns will be waiting to greet parade participants.
Participants may also choose to walk the Renfrew Ravine labyrinth and enjoy live music by the Tanglewood Duo.
So there you have it, Vancouver! If you’re looking for a unique festival celebrating the Harvest Moon, this is definitely a great way to get involved in the Renfrew-Collingwod community.
Happy September!
