There’s an elevated boardwalk that surrounds this rare blue-green lake in Ontario

The weekend is almost here and if you’re looking for day-trip inspo, there’s a lovely conservation area near Toronto with a boardwalk trail surrounding a rare body of water known as Crawford Lake.

You’ll find this gem in Milton, just about an hour away from Toronto. Crawford Lake Conservation Area draws tons of people in every year thanks to Crawford Lake’s pristine waters.

But it’s not just any lake – it’s a rare meromictic lake, according to Ontario Conservation Areas.

And to fully enjoy the views in all its glory, you can embark on a stroll along its surrounding boardwalk.

The boardwalk trail spans 1.8 km and loops around the lake. It then weaves through lush forest landscapes.

This lake shimmers with bright blue and green hues. It’s actually one of the very few meromictic lakes in Canada, where different layers of water don’t intermix, creating a mesmerizing sight.

“This small body of water formed over 10,000 years ago as a rare meromictic lake, which is a type of deep lake with two layers of water that never intermix,” shares Conservation Halton.

“The physical qualities of this tiny lake and its strict management as a protected area have contributed to well-preserved annual sediment layers in the lakebed.”

There is so much to explore in this conservation area, and it’s up to you to uncover it!

If you want to be one with nature, this is the place to be.
