This Ontario suspension bridge that overlooks lush foliage and a gorge spans 300 feet

Just two hours from Toronto, a fall adventure awaits. The Ranney Gorge Suspension Bridge is different than your typical autumn hike – this 300-foot spectacle overlooks the water below and is surrounded by foliage that is particularly beautiful this time of year.

You in?

Getting there

If you’re in Toronto, the bridge is the perfect distance for a little road trip to escape the city.

Ranney Gorge Suspension Bridge is found within Ferris Provincial Park in Campbellford, Ontario. The drive from Toronto should take you just two hours.

The entrance to the provincial park cannot be accessed after October 15th so if you’re heading over to see the bridge you will need to use Access Point #2 to enter which according to Visit Trent Hils, is adjacent to Locks 11/12 at 15 Trent Drive.

The bridge

The bridge stretches 300 feet and hovers 30 feet above the Ranney Gorge. One of the coolest features of the bridge is that as you walk along it, you’ll feel the structure sway just slightly. This is totally normal and part of the adventure!

The sights don’t end once you cross the bridge; rather, they begin.

After you cross the Ranney Gorge, you will have access to the trail system located inside Ferris Provincial Park. The trails are open year-round for visitors with areas accommodating hiking, cross-country skiing and cycling.

According to Visit Trent Hills Ranney Gorge Suspension Bridge is the only pedestrian bridge of its kind in Ontario, too.

Oh, and if you’re worried about the bridge filling up and what it can hold, it’s cleared to carry a whopping 75,000 pounds.

Taking photos of the panoramic views once on the bridge is a must so don’t forget to take out your camera or phone and enjoy your adventure.
