You can go on a FREE Queer History Tour in Edmonton this summer

Well folks, Pride Month is well underway! And to add to the already impressive list of options this month, we’re letting you know about the new Queer History Tour series in Edmonton. The tours kick off next week, but you’ve got a few opportunities to check it out. Here’s what to know!

As a little background info, the Queer History Tour series is put on by the The Edmonton Queer History Project, which is a community-engaged research project supported by MacEwan Centre for Sexual and Gender Diversity. Basically, the project wants to take a look at queer communities in the city over the past 50+ years.

The project kicked off back in 2015, and has seen support from a variety of other organizations, including the City of Edmonton Archives and Fruit Loop. Moving into the tours themselves, they will highlight some stories from the city over the past few decades, in a 90-minute long walking tour that starts in Michael Phair Park and winds through the downtown core.

In addition to these walking tours, there are also a couple of (also free) bus tours that folks can choose as well! And finally, for those who are unable to attend the tours themselves, you should know that there’s also a self-guided version available.

So whichever option you’re comfortable with, there are ways for you to enjoy what is sure to be a very informative (and very fun) hour and a half around downtown.
