Spring is in the air, and it’s a great time to get outdoors and enjoy the gorgeous weather and sunshine. BC residents have access to thousands of beautiful, accessible trails, varying in difficulty level. One of the most popular spots near Vancouver, however, has been out of commission & closed to the public for quite some time. The good news? Quarry Rock is now officially back on the map this spring!
The Baden Powell Trail between Deep Cove and Quarry Rock reopened to the public on Friday, March 17th, allowing hikers to fully explore the heights of Deep Cove and the North Shore.
The trail was originally closed due to the pandemic, and later remained closed so crews could repair the damage caused by the 2021 winter storms. Work to repair damaged bridges and stairs is now complete, according to the District of North Vancouver, allowing the trail to fully reopen to the public.
The start of the trail begins along Panorama Drive, leading up to a set of stairs and over what Vancouver Trails aptly calls “a maze of tree roots.”
After half an hour, the trail descends toward a large wooden bridge and a set of stairs on the other side. Next, hikers come to a fork in the trail. On the right, there is a clearing in the trees and ascending trail to Quarry Rock. Once you’ve finally made it, you’ll be able to enjoy some stunning views of the Indian Arm and mountains around Belcarra before heading back.
