This historic island in BC is home to Canada’s only floating pub

Love exploring BC’s many beautiful islands? Protection Island (formerly Douglas Island) is situated in Nanaimo in a former coal mining site, offering visitors sandy beaches, forested parks, and an abundance of wildlife to experience.

Today, 350 residents call the island home, commuting by boat, ferry, or kayak to Nanaimo every day.

Aside from its natural beauty, The Dinghy Dock Pub & Restaurant is a huge draw of the island as Canada’s only floating pub, offering visitors the chance to dine on the water, surrounded by sweeping views.

At night, the pub comes alive with live music and twinkling lights from downtown Nanaimo.
