A lakeside town has some of the best sunsets you’ll see in Ontario

You gotta see it to believe it! Port Elgin is one of Bruce County’s lakeside towns that draws visitors from near and far. The area is as beautiful as it is welcoming and if you’re lucky enough to stay into the evening, you’ll have a front-row seat to one of the most spectacular sunsets in Ontario.

Port Elgin is situated along the gorgeous shores of Lake Huron.

The town is tucked between Southampton and Kincardine, and if you’re driving from Toronto, you can expect it to take you just over three hours.

One of the first things you have to do while visiting Port Elgin is spend some time by the waterfront.

The Old Shore Road Trail is within Macgregor Point Provincial Park, and it’s the perfect place for lakeside views (which are particularly gorgeous during the fall).

The trail follows the Lake Huron shoreline and even has viewing platforms along the way to stop and take in the sights.

You will need to pay a daily fee if you’re entering the park to use the trail, starting at $12.25 per vehicle.

I recommend heading to the Port Elgin Main Beach to catch the sunset.

The beach is the town’s most popular attraction and for good reason. The sandy shores make it easy to either stroll along or set up a blanket/chair for the ultimate sunset experience.

Finish the day with a drink and some food from The Walker House. It’s a quick drive over in Southampton, but worth it.

The menu has a little of everything, but my personal favourite is the fish and chips.

Now that you know how to have the perfect day in Port Elgin, it’s time to start planning that road trip.
