There’s a “slice of heaven” tucked away along a shoreline and home to a beach with remnants of a sunken steamship. Point Clark, Ontario is next on our outdoor adventures and here’s what to know.
Along serene shores of Lake Huron, is this lovely town waiting to be explored. Just a three-hour drive from Toronto, Point Clark is located on a lakefront cottage community on Lake Huron. It’s full of tiny roads that wind through lush woods, revealing family cottages steeped in generations of memories.
Its picturesque landscape blends with the sparkling waters of Lake Huron, where visitors go to find peace and relaxation in their day-to-day lives.
At the heart of Point Clark stands its recently restored historical lighthouse, one of a few “imperial towers” built by John Brown over 140 years ago.
For you history buffs, head to the north part of the township where you will find the remains of the Erie Belle, a Great Lakes steamer that met a tragic fate on November 21, 1883.
According to Visit Point Clark, the boiler, a haunting reminder of the shipwreck, juts out from the water near Boiler Beach, which is named in its honour.
There’s a nearby cairn that commemorates the incident, inscribed with a tribute to the sailors who lost their lives.
Visitors can access Boiler Beach through several points along Boiler Beach Rd.
Whether you seek relaxation or a taste of history, Point Clark offers a unique getaway that’s worthy of a weekend trip.
