Pixar’s newest movie is set in Toronto & the trailer is filled with Canadian easter eggs

Pixar just dropped the teaser trailer for its next movie, and it’s going to be set in Toronto! The metropolis has been chosen for Turning Red, which follows a 13-year-old student named Mei Lee. The movie is set to be released next spring, and here’s what to know about it.

Turning Red is written and directed by Domee Shi, who actually already has an Oscar under her belt for the short film Bao (2018). Shi grew up in the Toronto area, so we’ve got great faith that she’ll do the city justice.

Not much has been revealed about the plot, aside from the fact that Mei Lee seems to turn into a giant red panda when in uncomfortable moments. Like when Mei Lee’s mom (played by Canadian actress Sandra Oh) shows up at her school to monitor her from behind a tree.

Cinematic shots show a vibrant exploration of the city’s neighbourhoods, with Chinatown and the CN Tower clearly visible. We’re hoping we get a full Pixar tour of Toronto, since those folks pretty much never miss. Turning Red is set to be released sometime in March of next year, and we’ll keep you updated as more details are revealed.

Enjoy the day, folks!
