This Ontario park has a 3-km white sand beach and Caribbean blue waters

You don’t need a plane ticket to escape to the tropics this summer. If white sand beaches are your ideal vacation destination, look no further than Ontario’s very own Pancake Bay Provincial Park.

According to Ontario Parks, Pancake Bay is home to “more than 3 km of beautiful sand beach and Caribbean blue water.”

This beach is actually the longest on Lake Superior. And on sunny days, the sand and turquoise water give it a tropical effect.

Ontario Parks says that while Lake Superior’s waters are normally quite cold, the shallows of Pancake Bay are more sheltered and therefore warmer for swimming.

The shoreline spans 3.5 km, making it the perfect destination for a long stroll and privacy.

A section of the park’s beach is even designated as a leash-free pet beach, so be sure to bring your fur buddy along for the fun.

In addition to pristine shorelines, this park has breathtaking hikes with panoramic vistas of Lake Superior from the Edmund Fitzgerald Lookout.

Paddlers will also love this park for its access to the historic paddling route of the Voyageurs that dates back to the 1700s.

The park has some incredible barrier-free campsites too, with washroom facilities and beach access.

There are camping opportunities of all kinds at Pancake Bay, including large RV sites, car camping, and even yurts.

Pancake Bay is quite a long distance from Toronto, so you may want to make a weekend of it.

Thankfully, there are plenty of incredible surrounding destinations to visit, including Algoma Country and Sault Ste. Marie.

Beach days are calling, and this summer is the perfect time to explore the natural gems within our province’s borders.
