The longest hiking trail in this Ontario park has several scenic outlooks
The trail is within the Ontario Park and will take hikers along an eight-kilometre loop. The loop takes anywhere from two to four hours to complete and is marked as a moderate trail.
According to Ontario Parks standards, a moderate trail has “some steep inclines and uneven footing and takes less than four hours.”
Because of the length and difficulty be sure to pack water, snacks, proper footwear, sunscreen and anything else you may need while embarking on your adventure.
The first leg of the trail goes through beautiful evergreen forests, eventually leading to a lookout with views of the beautiful Lake Superior.
A pebble beach on Lake Superior marks the halfway point! To complete the Orphan Lake Trail, follow the Baldhead River upstream which will lead you past a series of waterfalls.
The trail then “climbs to the east shore of Orphan Lake before joining with the trail back to the trailhead.”
Forests, lookouts, beaches and waterfalls – need we say more?
To enter the park to get to the trail you’ll need to pay a day-use fee which starts at $12.25.
