Here’s what’s open and closed in Edmonton on Thanksgiving Monday this year

Hungry? It’s nearly turkey time and we can hardly wait to stuff our faces with pie and cranberry sauce. Of course, before we get into the fun of it, there are a few things of note – mainly where you can and cannot do your Monday errands this year. Not sure what’s open and what’s closed on Thanksgiving in Edmonton this year? We’ve got you – because nothing kills the holiday vibe quite like a locked door.

Open

Movie theatres

Whether you’re hoping to catch The Exorcist: Believer or My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3, you’re in luck! Landmark Cinemas and Cineplex locations across the city will all be open so pop some corn and settle in!

The Landfill

Good news! The Landfill will also be open this year on Monday. Check out their hours here.

Malls

Though we’d recommend checking their hours before heading out, West Edmonton Mall, Kingsway, Southgate Centre and Edmonton City Centre Mall will be open.

Edmonton Valley Zoo

What’s new at the zoo? This Monday, you can check out the incredible programming at the Edmonton Valley Zoo.

Grocery and liquor stores

Need milk or a bottle of wine for the table? You’re in luck. Though (again) we’d recommend checking your local stop hours, most liquor and grocery stores will be open this Monday.

Telus World of Science

Science rules! Especially when you get to check out some amazing family-friendly exhibitions, a movie inside the IMAX, or a little light show in the Zeidler Dome at The Telus World of Science.

Museums

This Monday you will be able to visit several Edmonton museums like the Royal Alberta Museum and the Alberta Aviation Museum.

U of C Botanic Garden

A little long weekend road trip? Why not? This Monday outta town and head to the U of A Botanic Garden where you can wander acres of flowers and grass under the heat of the sun.

Closed

City-owned Recreation Facilities and Leisure Centres

Sorry, folks – but this Thanksgiving Monday, many of Edmonton’s Recreational centres will be closed in lieu of the stat.

The following, however, will remain open with reduced hours:

Post Offices

Whether it’s an Amazon return or an invitation – it’ll have to wait! This Thanksgiving Monday (and every stat holiday) the post office will be closed.

Costco

While grocery and convenience stores will be open this Monday, Costco will be unshoppable this Monday Looks like you’ll have to get your massive hot dog fix before Thanksgiving! 

Government Offices

From the passport office to the DMV, all government offices will be closed on Thanksgiving Monday.
