Here’s what’s open and closed in Calgary on Thanksgiving Monday this year

It’s nearly turkey time again but before we stuff our faces with cranberry sauce and pie, we’ve got some housekeeping to do. Whether you’re hoping to do some errands or need to do some last-minute shopping before dinner on Monday, it’s important to know what to expect in and around the city, so – without further adieu, here’s everything that will be open and closed on Thanksgiving in Calgary.

OPEN

MOVIE THEATRES

Hoping to catch a flick this Monday? Landmark CinemasCineplex and Calgary’s cheap theatre, Canyon Meadows, will all be open all weekend long.

MALLS

Though we’d recommend checking their hours before heading out, Southcentre Mall, CrossIron MillsCF Chinook Centre, CF Market Mall and The CORE Shopping Centre will all be open on October 10th.

THE CALGARY ZOO

Lions and tigers and bears (oh my!) – The Calgary Zoo will also be open this Monday and will be the perfect time to visit their new baby gorilla!

GROCERY & LIQUOR STORES

Need milk or have been put in charge of a last-minute beer run? You’re in luck. Though (again) we’d recommend checking your local stop hours, most liquor and grocery stores will be open this Monday.

THE CALGARY TOWER

Views, views and more views. This Thanksgiving, check out the Calgary Tower, grab a bite to eat at Sky 360 and enjoy!

TELUS SPARK

They say you should learn one thing a day – why not head to Telus Spark this Monday and have a ton of fun while filling your brain with funky facts?

CALAWAY PARK

This Monday adrenaline junkies and families looking to enjoy some fresh air can do so at Calaway Park this Monday. Hold on tight and enjoy!

MUSEUMS

Rollercoasters just aren’t your thing? Thanksgiving Monday, Calgarians can also visit several in-city museums like Glenbow’s temporary space at The Edison and the Military Museum.

HERITAGE PARK

Go back in time this Thanksgiving at Heritage Park! Open between 10 am and 5 pm, Calgarians can check out old-timey buildings, shops and carnival rides.

CALGARY TRANSIT

While transit will be operational on Monday, October 10th, CTrains, busses and On Demand transport will run on their Sunday schedule, so plan accordingly, folks!

CLOSED

CITY-OWNED RECREATIONAL FACILITIES AND LEISURE CENTRES

Sorry, folks – but this Monday, most city-owned pools, as well as fitness and rec centres, will be closed in lieu of the Stat holiday. Don’t worry though, it won’t be long until they reopen.

POST OFFICES

Whether it’s an Amazon return or an invitation – it’ll have to wait! This Monday (and every stat holiday) the post office will be closed.

COSTCO

While grocery and convenience stores will be open this Friday, Costco will be unshoppable this Monday Looks like you’ll have to get your massive hot do fix before September 5th!
