Ontario’s iconic Stratford Festival will be taking place outdoors this summer

In-person performances may be making their return this summer at the Stratford Festival. After the cancellation of the iconic event’s 2020 season, it looks like things have been reconfigured this year. Instead of the usual indoor lineup, performances are moving outdoors for a COVID-19 safe affair.

So here’s how it’ll work. Roughly a dozen performances are set to go on between June and September 2021. Each will run approximately 90 minutes and will be held under large canopies set up outside. As usual, the performances will be a mix of plays and cabarets. They’ll also be recorded and available to stream online.

Because of the outdoor setup, the audience will be able to hold up to 100 guests (in socially distanced pods) instead of just 50. That is, if the COVID-19 guidelines have remained the same by the time the festival rolls around. That, combined with the Stratford Festival online viewing platform, means that as many folks as possible will have access to the iconic event.

There’s no word yet on the actual dates of the performances, but those are set to be released come spring. For now, we’ll be looking excitedly ahead toward a future where live entertainment is ours to enjoy again.
