Here’s how to find out if Ontario parks are at peak snow conditions

Planning a winter park trip in Ontario can feel a bit like rolling the dice. One park is covered in fresh snow, while another is still waiting for winter to show up. But there’s an easy way to find out if it’s worth the trip before you head out.

That can make it hard to know where to go, especially if the point is to go snowshoeing, skiing, or winter hiking. Nobody wants to drive hours just to find muddy trails. To avoid all of that, use the Ontario Parks Snow Report.

According to Ontario Parks, this feature is updated regularly throughout the winter.

“The report includes trail and snow conditions, as well as distances and amenities in each park,” they say.

How does the snow report work?

The site features an interactive map that highlights each park, stating its condition.

At the time of writing, the only available Ontario provincial park that has excellent snowy conditions is Sleeping Giant.

As of Dec. 21, 2025, Sleeping Giant has a snow depth of 35 cm, with about 10 cm of new snow.

Activities available here include cross-country skiing, ice skating and snowshoeing.

Now that we’ve officially entered the winter season, more snow is expected, of course. Ontario Parks’ snow report offers an easy way to stay one step ahead. It makes it easier to plan out trips, winter hikes and cold-weather getaways.

So whether you’re chasing fresh powder or just looking for a reason to get outside, checking conditions ahead of time can make all the difference.
