Ontario is looking for an army of volunteers to help roll out booster shots ASAP

Ontario is in a race against time to roll out booster shots and “all hands on deck” are needed to speed things along. The province released a statement on Wednesday saying that online portals are being set up to recruit volunteers that can help run vaccination clinics and safely administer shots.

“Our best defence against the highly transmissible Omicron variant is a lightning-fast offence,” said Premier Doug Ford in the statement.

“In a few short weeks, Ontario has scaled up its vaccine rollout at incredible speed, but we aren’t stopping there. Everyone has a role to play. It’s all hands on deck as we boost up Ontario.”

Those interested in participating can sign up on the Ontario COVID-19 Volunteer portal. All residents 16 and older are invited to volunteer and can choose from a variety of roles based on their abilities and skills, as well as the needs of their local public health unit.

Plus, the province will allow more healthcare professionals and first responders to help out with administering vaccine doses under the supervision of a physician, registered nurse, or pharmacist.

Retired nurses and doctors, dentists, and firefighters will all be eligible to register through the Health Workforce Matching Portal. The new recruits will have access to training courses to tune up their vaccinating skills.

Now that boosters are available to all Ontarians 18 and older, Health Minister Christine Elliott says it’s time to get them into arms “as fast as possible.”
