Ontario has officially moved into Step 3 this morning & here’s what has changed

If you thought Step 2 was good, just wait until you hear about Step 3. Ontario is officially entering Step 3 this morning and life is about to look a lot more normal. Now as always with reopenings, there are a few things that you should know. Let’s get into the details.

The big excitement here is that places like indoor dining, gyms, movie theatres, and nightclubs will be able to reopen. Additionally, you can have indoor gatherings with up to 25 people and 100 people outdoors. That being said there will still be capacity limits at pretty much all venues and masks will still be required. Regardless, things are definitely looking up.

Along with those changes, inter-regional travel is now officially permitted, and fans will be allowed back at major sporting venues with a limited capacity of 50% indoors up to 1000 people, and 75% outdoors up to 15,000 people.

If you’re wondering how Ontario made it to Step 3 so quickly it’s because Ontario had actually reached its goal vaccination thresholds weeks ago. But in order to get out of Step 2, the province also needed to see a decrease in things like case counts and ICU occupancy. Luckily we have all those things going for us and now we’ll be cruising in Step 3 for at least 3 weeks.

After that, the province will need to hit certain vaccination thresholds in order to move on from Step 3 into what is a more fully realized reopening. These thresholds include having 80% of Ontario’s 12 and older population with at least one dose, 75% having their second dose, and no region having less than 70% of eligible people with full vaccination.
