Here’s where you can find Ontario’s largest all natural limestone cave system

Ontario is filled with natural wonders and must-see tour experiences, including the province’s largest, all-natural limestone cave system. If you have the Bruce Peninsula on your bucket list, make sure to stop by Greig’s Caves.

Located almost four hours away from Toronto, the cave experience can be found just outside of Lions Head at 407 Scenic Caves Rd. Adventure seekers can take part in self-guided tours and enjoy a picnic with a breathtaking view.

According to Greig’s Caves, the area is about 400 mil­lion years old and was once covered by a tropical sea full of life forms such as plant-like animals, crustaceans, living corals, and mol­lusks.

“It would have looked much like the present-day Great Barrier Reef of Australia. When the sea began to dry up, the minerals dissolved in it became more and more concentrated. Magnesium in the water was absorbed into the limestone, which then became a harder, slightly different sort of rock, called dolomite,” reads the site.

The property currently showcases 10 caves however there are a total of 12. Only those located on the privately owned property can be explored at this time.

If exploration is calling your name, Graig’s Caves are open daily at 9 AM and close at 6 PM. In September and October, it closes at 5 PM.

If you’ve planned a trip up north for a little diving adventure, exploring shipwrecks at Fathom Five National Marine Park, Graig’s Caves is less than an hour away. According to organizers, it should take thrill seekers about two hours to enjoy the caves and even enjoy a picnic lunch.

Pricing starts at $7.50 for children aged three to 12 and $15 for adults. At the moment, they are only accepting cash.
