The Northern Lights could be visible across Canada tonight & here’s what to know

Look up and look alive! We hope you’re feeling rested after this past weekend because Canadians from coast to coast may have a front-row seat to a dazzling northern lights display and you won’t want to miss it.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) photographers, space enthusiasts and romance seekers should keep their eyes on the sky tonight January 22nd – 23rd, 2024.

“A CME was observed lifting off the Sun on 20 Jan and is expected to cause up to G2 (Moderate) geomagnetic storming on 22-23 Jan (UTC days),” they wrote on social media, adding that a corresponding watch has been issued.

As always, whether or not you see hues of blue and green will depend on the weather in your area so cross your fingers for a clear sky!

From Vancouver to Calgary, Edmonton and beyond little cloud coverage could offer an experience you won’t forget, though we’d recommend heading out of the city and away from light pollution for the best view.

In Toronto? You might also be able to catch the show on the horizon.

As seen above, the view line for tonight’s Aurora reaches as far as Nebraska – so, while we wouldn’t be big bucks on it, you too, may see a little something.

Either way, get excited, Canada! There’s truly nothing quite like the Northern Lights and it certainly isn’t every day that you get a chance to see them.
