This special driving route in Ontario has breathtaking views

There’s nothing better than a road trip on a sunny day! The Niagara Parkway is one of the most beautiful driving routes in Ontario, consisting of an epic journey that runs parallel to the Niagara River for 55 km from Fort Erie in the south to Niagara on the Lake in the north.

The route

According to Niagara Falls Tourism, the parkway dates back to the early 1900s.

“The parkway is one of the oldest in Ontario. Construction of the Niagara Parkway began in 1908 and was completed in 1931.”

Along the way, you’ll see lovely views of the Niagara River, but don’t take our word for it; former British prime minister Sir Winston Churchill thinks so too. Churchill visited Niagara Falls in 1943, saying that the Niagara Parkway was the “prettiest Sunday afternoon drive in the world.”

If you want to make some stops, the parkway provides a map with the best one.

The map provided by Niagara Parks includes nature areas, restaurants and shopping.

The Floral ShowhouseJourney behind the FallsClifton HillOakes Garden AmphitheatreNiagara City Cruises, and White-Water Walk are just a handful of the attractions you can check out while on your drive on the Niagara Parkway.

The journey ends in the town of Niagara-on-the-Lake, an area that dances with the changing colours of fall this time of year.

Niagara-on-the-Lake is known as one of Ontario’s prettiest towns, so it goes without saying that it’s a great place to end your trip.

Grab a friend, take some photos, roll the windows down, and enjoy your trip along the Niagara Parkway!
