Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, transforms for the holiday season, becoming a charming getaway in the winter.
Twinkling lights adorn its historical streets and exciting festive experiences are planned for the rest of December. You don’t have to travel too far to be whisked away to somewhere beautiful in the province. Niagara-on-the-Lake is often said to be one of the prettiest towns in Ontario, and it lives up to its reputation.
Located in the Niagara region, this waterfront community is bursting with old-world charm and is one of Canada’s most historic towns. This well-preserved 19th-century village features storybook-worthy heritage homes and boulevards lined with boutiques, restaurants, and attractions. This picturesque town is beautiful in every season, especially in the winter. Not only is it wonderfully decorated but it hosts a number of wholesome events.
According to the Niagara-on-the-Lake Tourism Instagram page, there are six upcoming holiday experiences worthy of a road trip. Why not immerse yourself in the holiday spirit with timeless classics at the Shaw Festival. This season’s lineup includes beloved productions like My Fair Lady and A Christmas Carol, offering the perfect mix of theatrical magic and festive cheer.
Continue that festive wave with a Breakfast with Santa experience like no other. On Dec. 14 and 21, enjoy a delicious meal before heading to the Churchill Lounge for a chance to snap a picture with Santa Claus. Don’t miss out on seeing him at the Santa Claus Parade on Dec. 14 too. Starting at King and Centre Street in Old Town, the parade will weave through Castlereagh, Wellington, Byron/Prideaux, Simcoe, and Queen Streets, bringing joy and excitement to spectators of all ages.
Are you more a history buff? Step back in time to celebrate Christmas the 19th-century way at Fort George for A Garrison Christmas. On Dec. 14 and 15, explore beautifully decorated rooms, enjoy crafts and games, and savour live music, hot drinks, and tasty treats from noon to 4:00 p.m. If you’re here for the weekend, head to the Niagara Pumphouse Holiday Market to find one-of-a-kind treasures. On Dec. 15, browse through a wide variety of handmade gifts, original artwork, holiday décor, and more, all created by local artists and artisans.
And in the evening, experience the magic of Bright Nights at Lakeview Wine Co., a dazzling walk-through light display running until Mar. 1, 2025. Be enchanted by over 200 hand-crafted light creations that transform the winery into a winter wonderland. There’s lots to do and so much to see this holiday season, so why not make a trip to Niagara-on-the-Lake?
Parking is free until Dec. 31, 2024 so you can also save some extra cash and spend more of your day here too. Don’t miss out on this magical and worthy adventure.
